The Mortgage Brokers are regulated by the Professional and Vocational Licensing Division of the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs. The Department does not require applicants to do any testing or have any prior education in order to be licensed. However, they do require that if you want to be licensed in the state that you have a physical office location in Hawaii.
Hawaii does want the Mortgage Broker to have some type of experience mortgages or financial transactions that involved either First or Second Mortgage processing. It is expected that each licensed Mortgage Broker will comply with the 3 main Acts which include the Truth in Lending Act, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, and the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act.
